My Gear

I don’t have the best gear but I’m always saving to improve what I have. I started doing wedding photography on the side here and there. Any money I receive from doing the wedding jobs I’m saving and trying to reinvest in better equipment. I’m lacking a great video camera and I also want to buy a drone so I can get some cool aerial photography shots of wedding parties and such. So check back but this is what I have at the moment.

Camera

Nikon DSLR D5300. I bought this on Amazon for $399 about two years ago. It takes great pictures and the video is really good, however it lacks in image stabilization. You can correct some of this if you are using Adobe Premier Pro but I think it’s better to have it built-in to the camera. It’s a 24MP camera and has built in Wifi, which is a cool feature.

Lens

My first lens is what I use most of the time. It’s a Nikon 18 to 200mm Zoom Lens. It’s a bit of a beast but I like it because the 200mm zoom is excellent. A lot fo the Nikons come with the 18 to 35mm lens. This lens is portable and is good for all around photography.

My second lens is for close up shots. It’s great at blurring out the background. Nikon AF FX NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4D Fixed Zoom Lens. The depth of focus on this lens is very exact, meaning you need to be within a few inches of the perfect focal length or you will be out of focus. If you are recording yourself it’s really too hard to get the focus just right.

That’s my main gear. Of course, I have bags, extra batteries, tripods and all kinds of other small stuff.
